Below are options for financial assistance for crime victims.

Restitution

Victims have the right to request that a defendant is ordered to reimburse their out of pocket expenses based on the specific crime. This is called restitution. The Victim will work with their Victim/Witness Coordinator or a Probation Officer to make this request. The Victim requests restitution by filing an Affidavit for Restitution.

Reparations

The Crime Victims Reparations Board can compensate a victim (or their family) of violent crime for their losses incurred as a result of the crime.  The Victim/Witness Coordinator can assist you in completing the form and answer any questions that you have about the process.

Direct Client Assistance

Emergency funds are to be used to meet emergency needs of victims of crime. These funds are used to reimburse Victims for expenses that Minnesota Crime Victim Reparations Board would not reimburse.

To apply for emergency fund assistance call the General Crime Victim Services Program of Cornerstone at 612-767-9844. If you are already working with a Victim/Witness Coordinator you can also contact that person and request assistance.  In most cases, emergency fund payments are made directly to the vendor.
