Firearms Permits

Permit to Purchase a Firearm (Carver County Residents)

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office processes Permit to Purchase applications for individuals who reside within Carver County. Applicants must complete the required form and provide valid identification.

**Chaska Residents will submit Permit to Purchase a Firearm applications to Chaska PD.

How to Apply

1. Apply In Person

Submit your completed application and a copy of your driver’s license at:

Carver County Justice Center
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM

A staff member will review your materials to ensure the application is complete.

2. Apply by Email

Email your completed application and a scanned copy or clear photo of your driver’s license to:

3. Apply by Mail

Mail your completed application and a photocopy of your driver’s license to:

Processing Time

Permit to Purchase applications are typically processed within the timeframe required by Minnesota State Statute. Delays may occur if information is incomplete or additional review is needed.

Permit Fee

There is no fee for a Permit to Purchase in Minnesota.

After You Apply

You will be notified by mail once your application has been approved or denied. If approved, the permit will be included in your mailed notification.

Permit to Carry 

Minnesota Permit to Carry – All Carver County Residents

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office accepts Permit to Carry applications from individuals who reside in Carver County. Applications may be submitted in person or by mail.

Applying for a Permit to Carry

1. Apply In Person

Submit your completed and signed application, along with all required documents, at:

Carver County Justice Center
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM

A staff member will verify your materials and collect the required fee.

2. Apply by Mail

Mail your completed application and all required documentation to:

Required Documents

All applications must include:

  • A completed Minnesota Permit to Carry application
  • A current, valid driver’s license, state ID, or passport
  • Proof of approved firearms safety training completed within the past year
  • The required fee (check your county’s current rate and acceptable payment methods)

 

Applications missing any required documents may be rejected. Please assure the application is filled out and dated for the day it is submitted to our office. 

Fees

Permit to Carry application fees are set by Minnesota State Statute. Fees vary depending on whether you are applying for an:

  • New permit $75.00 
  • Renewal on time (Up to 90 days before expiration) $50.00
  • Late renewal (Within 30 days after expiration date) $60.00
  • Data Change (Name or address change) $10.00 if you want a new card to reflect the change. 

After You Apply

You will receive written notification when your application has been approved or denied. If approved, your permit will be mailed to the address provided on your application.
