Carver County Sheriff's Office-Records Request
The Carver County Sheriff’s Office is committed to transparency and timely access to public data in accordance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA), Minn. Stat. Chapter 13. Most Sheriff’s Office data are public unless classified as private, confidential, or nonpublic under state law.
We process requests for police reports, accident reports, photos, 911 audio and transcripts, background checks, and other sheriff’s office records.
Ways to Request a Report
1. Request by Phone
Call the Records Unit at 952‑361‑1105 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM).
If you reach voicemail, please leave a detailed message including your name, phone number, and the type of report you are requesting. A records specialist will return your call.
2. Request by Email
Email your request to Sheriff-Records@carvercountymn.gov.
To help us locate your report quickly, please include:
- Your full name and contact information
- Report type (accident, incident, arrest, etc.)
- Date, time, and location of the incident
- Report number (if known)
3. Request by Mail or In Person
Mail requests to:

Visit the Records Unit at the Justice Center during business hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Fees
- $0.25 per page for printed accident, incident, or arrest reports
- Photo fees vary by size
- Electronic data requests are billed at the actual cost of retrieval

Photographs, media, and specialized requests: fees vary depending on format and reproduction time.
- Accepted payments: check or money order payable to Carver County
- Certain data sets can be inspected for free with an appointment.
Credit card option is available. Please contact our Data Practices Specialist at 952-361-1105 for this option and any questions on records request you may have.
Response Time
If clarification is needed, the Data Practices Specialist will contact you to ensure the request is processed efficiently.
Public, Private, and Confidential Data
Under Minnesota law, certain information cannot be released or must be redacted. Examples include:
• Active criminal investigative data (Minn. Stat. § 13.82 subd. 7)
• Juvenile records (Minn. Stat. § 260B.171)
• Victim information (Minn. Stat. § 13.82 subd. 17)
• Vulnerable adult and maltreatment data (Minn. Stat. §§ 626.556 & 626.557)
• Protected health information or other data classified as private, confidential, or nonpublic under state or federal law
When portions of a record are not public, we will release the accessible parts whenever possible.

Identification Requirements
A valid government‑issued photo ID is required for data‑subject requests.
