Homeless Prevention Programs are designed to offer one-time financial assistance to help prevent homelessness. Funding for all of the following programs is limited.

Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program (FHPAP)
Offers rent and deposit assistance to families, single adults, and youth in Carver and Scott Counties. To be eligible, households must be at risk of losing their housing and have a net income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guideline. To apply, dial 2-1-1 for United Way. Enter your language preference, zip code, and then select option 3 for housing related questions. This line is available 24/7. A referral will be sent to the CAP Agency if a household meets the initial FHPAP eligibility criteria. CAP staff then contact the household to gather further information. CAP generally takes referrals from 211 during the first week of each month. After the referral period closes, they assess all requests and determine which they can help. Funding generally allows CAP to help less than half of those who request assistance.

Local Homeless Prevention Aid and Statewide Affordable Housing Aid

Carver County CDA Emergency Rental Assistance Program
The Carver County Community Development Agency (CCCDA), in partnership with Bountiful Basket, is offering rent assistance to eligible families experiencing financial hardship. Funding is limited and applications will be accepted until funds are exhausted.

Veteran Services/MAC-V rental assistance
One time rent assistance for Veterans through the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans. Contact the Carver County Veteran’s Service officer to be referred appropriately.

PROP
Financial Assistance Program serves Chanhassen and Eden Prairie only. Provides financial help for rent or mortgage payments, gas and electricity reconnections. Financial assistance is aimed to resolve a short-term gap of income or crisis situation.

Energy Assistance Program (EAP)
Assists residents of Scott, Carver, and Dakota counties in paying their energy bills. The program runs October 1st– June 1st and residents must apply each season. EAP does not require you to have a shut off notice to apply.

Help with energy bills. Applicant must first be denied both CAP Agency’s Energy Assistance Program and County Emergency Assistance or Emergency General Assistance.

The Housing Hub is the new system that helps people find housing in the Suburban Metro Area. This includes Carver, Scott, Dakota, Anoka, and Washington Counties.
If you are homeless, a Housing Specialist will talk with you about your situation and share possible resources.
If those resources do not help within 30 days, you may qualify for a Housing Needs Assessment. This assessment will add your name to the Housing Registry. Many local housing programs use the registry to find people who may be eligible for their programs.

Carver Family Shelter Program - Hotel Vouchers may be available for families with minor children who are experiencing homelessness. For more information call the Carver County Housing Unit Helpline at 952-442-4496.
CAP Agency - (952) 496-2125 x3 (You must leave a message. CAP voicemail states the call will be returned within 1 to 2 business days. But they do their best to call back ASAP.) Hotel Vouchers may be available when there are extreme weather conditions or when funding for hotel stays are available. There may be a waiting list for hotel vouchers.
Hope House - 6 bed emergency shelter for youth ages 14 to 19 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Southwest Twin Cities Metro Area. It is located at 3010 West 78th St. Chanhassen on the campus of Westwood Community Church.
Youth Shelter Network - This website shows real time openings for youth shelters.
Crisis Nursery - If a homeless family needs a safe place for their children to sleep, they may call (612) 839-5101.
Passageways Emergency Shelter – Shelter for Sexually Exploited youth ages 13-17. The West Metro Regional Navigator will help with shelter placement by calling (612) 232-5428.
Chaska Police – (952) 448-4200 - May provide Emergency Hotel Vouchers after hours within the city limits of Chaska. Will check for warrants and see if you have cash to pay on your own. May provide 1-3 nights to get to the next business day.
Carver County Sheriff – (952) 361-1231 - May provide Emergency Hotel Vouchers after hours anywhere in Carver County besides the city of Chaska. Will check for warrants and see if you have cash to pay on your own. May provide 1-3 nights to get to the next business day.
If you are not comfortable speaking with law enforcement, Health and Human Services Intake (952) 361-1600 or the Crisis Team (952) 442-7601 may be able to facilitate an emergency voucher depending on fund availability.
Day One - If you are fleeing domestic violence, call Day One’s Domestic Violence Crisis Line, 1-866-223-1111. They will help contact the nearest safe place if you are eligible for this type of shelter.
Southern Valley Alliance - (952) 873-4214 Domestic Violence advocacy. Connections to domestic violence shelters and some capacity to provide temporary hotel vouchers in domestic violence situations.
United Way 211 - Walks through shelter options throughout the metro area. Dial 2-1-1 from any phone.

Adult Shelter Connect – (612) 248-2350 For access to Hennepin County shelter for single adults. They may take people from Carver County if there are no shelter openings in Carver County.
Family Shelter Line – (612) 348-9410 (business hours) (651) 291-0211 (after hours) for families with minor children who are Hennepin County Residents. (This may be an option if your homeless in Carver but you are technically a resident of Hennepin County or receive benefits from Hennepin County.)
Deposit Assistance: If you are homeless but found a housing option and are in need of deposit or rental assistance, you may apply for the FHPAP Program (Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance) or Emergency Assistance.

Homeless Outreach Program: Carver County's Housing Unit provides homeless outreach and support services to people who are experiencing homelessness. Referrals for this program come from the Housing Hub Registry (previously known as the Coordinated Entry Priority List). Services are designed to help people find and maintain housing.
