Regular physical activity is not only fun, but it is also one of the best things you can do for your physical and mental health. Being active each day improves your overall fitness and lowers your risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and some cancers. Physical activity also strengthens your bones and muscles, helps you complete daily tasks, prevents falls, and increases your chances of living a longer, healthier life.

How much physical activity do you need?

A healthy lifestyle is built on many small, positive choices. The good news is that physical activity can be spread throughout the week and broken into shorter time segments. What matters most is finding a routine that works for you, as long as you are active at a moderate or vigorous level for at least 10 minutes at a time.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created guidelines that explain physical activity recommendations for children and adolescents, older adults, and pregnant or postpartum women.
