2024-2025 Carver County SHIP Workplace Wellness Report

This report explains the workplace wellness efforts completed by local businesses from November 1, 2024 through October 31, 2025. The work was funded by the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP). During this time, Public Health staff helped local workplaces with projects that supported healthy eating, physical activity, breastfeeding support, and mental wellbeing. The goal was to make healthy choices easier for employees while at work.

Reach

14 worksite received funding for employee wellness projects.
15 businesses participated in our quarterly SHIP Workplace Collaborative meetings.
26 employees from Carver County businesses completed a Mental Health First Aid course offered through a SHIP-supported training.
Many businesses worked with our Workplace Wellness Consultant to build the foundational elements of an employee wellness program.

Funding

More than $31,000 was distributed to workplace partners to support their wellness projects.

Carver County Sheriff's Office

The Sheriff's Office project provided dumbbells, curl bars, and a Smith machine with weighted plates to support the wellbeing of all officers. They also offered a training session that covered how to safely use the equipment. The fitness space has been integrated into the County's broader "Work Well, Live Well" initiative, which promotes holistic employee wellness by encouraging physical activity, stress reduction, and mental wellbeing.

Carver County CDA

SHIP funding was used to purchase a new refrigerator, giving employees more opportunities to enjoy healthy meals and snacks at work. This helps reduce the need for staff to leave the office for food, which can be unhealthy and costly over time. The CDA also felt that having this added convenience would help build a sense of sharing and community among employees.

The addition of a second refrigerator has allowed staff to properly store lunches, leftovers, food for office events, and more. It has also reduced stress for employees who spend the full day in the office.

Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's project focused on promoting healthy eating among staff, members, and visitors at their newly internally managed onsite café, Rootstock. SHIP funds were used to create a marketing campaign with posters and videos, as well as to purchase ingredients and supplies for two taste‑testing events featuring new menu items. After each event, staff were invited to complete a survey about their experience.

Modern Design Cabinetry

Modern Design Cabinetry's project focused on creating a healthy snack station and a quiet room for mental wellbeing and for breastfeeding moms. With more female employees joining the company, this space was needed to support new moms and to provide a quiet area for anyone who needs a mental health break.

The healthy snack station has been especially popular. With SHIP funds, the company purchased start-up snacks and held a taste-testing event. Employees voted on their favorites, and now the company will continue to purchase those snack items moving forward.
