What does it take to create a community of belonging? In late 2021, Carver County launched the Communities of Belonging initiative to explore and address this very question. Today, there are vibrant Communities of Belonging groups actively engaged in Chanhassen and Cologne.

  • Chanhassen
    • The Chanhassen group hosts weekly CHANChats on Saturday mornings for informal chats and conversations and monthly CHANforums and CHANcrafts. You can find more information on the Communities of Belonging Chanhassen website, or their Facebook page.
  • Cologne
    • The City of Cologne's leadership team is comprised of a small group of residents who began the Communities of Belonging work in their community. The leadership team has recruited an additional 35 residents that make up Cologne's larger work group. Cologne's work group has completed a survey of adult residents in the Cologne-area to learn what community conditions makes people feel like they belong, as well as those conditions which make people feel that they do not belong. The group is currently developing an action plan to create a welcoming community for all current and future residents.
