What Is the Child and Teen Checkups Program?

Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC) is a benefit for children and teens from birth through age 20 who are on Medical Assistance. The program provides free preventive health and dental checkups. Call your child's healthcare provider to schedule a checkup. 

How Can Carver County C&TC Staff Help?

  • Schedule appointments
  • Arrange transportation and interpreter services for your appointments
  • Connect with community resources

When are Checkups Due?

Children should have health checkups at the following times:

  • Between birth and 1 month
  • At 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, and 30 months
  • Every year from age 3 through age 20

Dental checkups should start when the first tooth appears or at age 1, and then every 6 months (2 times per year). 

What Does a Checkup Include?

A Child and Teen Checkup includes: 

  • A complete physical exam
  • Hearing and vision checks
  • Lab tests and immunizations
  • Developmental, growth, and mental health screenings
  • A dental referral and fluoride varnish to help prevent tooth decay
  • Information about physical and mental health, healthy habits, nutrition, and more
  • Time to talk with your healthcare provider about any questions and concerns

Checkups can be used to meet requirements for Head Start, WIC, school, sports, or childcare enrollment. Be sure to bring any forms you need filled out to your appointment.
