The County Recorder/Registrar of Titles works closely with the Examiner of Titles. The Examiner of Titles is an attorney appointed by the judges of the District Court to act as an advisor to the Registrar of Titles, pursuant to Minnesota Statute 508.12

The Examiner of Titles assists the District Court by examining titles and petitions, issuing reports, and conducting hearings in court cases involving the registration of land titles and in court cases involving problems or disputes with land which has been previously registered.

Chapter 508 of Minnesota Statute provides that certain instruments may not be accepted for recording by the county unless certified by the Examiner of Titles or pursuant to a Court Order.
