If you have recently moved to Carver County, please note the following:

NAME/ADDRESS

Accurate records help us serve you better. Please check your name and mailing address on any documents you receive from our office to make sure the information is correct. If they are incorrect, please contact us at (952) 361-1910 or custsvc@carvercountymn.gov.

HOMESTEAD

If the property you own and occupy is your primary residence, or you have a qualifying relative occupying, you may be eligible for the homestead market value exclusion, which may reduce the amount of property tax you pay. Visit the Homestead information page for additional information.

  • The following events are considered a change in ownership and require a new homestead application: new owners, placing property in a trust, name change or adding or removing of an owner.

To apply for a or check the status on a homestead classification, please contact the Carver County Assessor's Office by phone: (952) 361-1960 or email: assessment@carvercountymn.gov.

PROPERTY TAXES

If you recently purchased your property, it is important to make sure the taxes for the year of the sale are paid. Please review your closing papers to see who is responsible for paying the taxes. If you are unsure whether the full year taxes are paid, need a copy of your tax statement, or want to sign up for email reminders, visit our property access page.

Tax statements are mailed each year by March 31. For most properties, the first half of taxes is due May 15. The second half is due October 15. For most agricultural properties, the second half is due November 15. For manufactured homes, taxes are due August 31 and November 15. By law, a penalty is added to any late payments. Please remember that not receiving your tax statement does not excuse late payment.

VOTER REGISTRATION

If your name or home address has changed since you last voted, you must register again before you can vote in future elections. You can get a voter registration application on our website, at most city hall offices, at Carver County public libraries, the Elections & Licensing Department in the Government Center, or when you apply for a driver's license. If you have any further questions, please contact us at, (952) 361-1941 or elections@carvercountymn.gov.

DRIVER'S LICENSE & OTHER COUNTY SERVICES

If you have moved, you must update your driver's license. You may also need to renew your motor vehicle registration, buy a game and fish license, renew registration for watercraft or an all-terrain vehicle, or apply for a passport. Carver County has license and service centers located in Chaska and Chanhassen to help with these services. Because of federal rules, not all services are available at both locations.
