Excess Funds from Property Sales
When a property is sold and the sale amount exceeds the total owed in taxes and fees, the remaining balance is considered excess funds. These funds may be claimed by eligible parties according to the guidelines below.
Who Will be Notified
The County will mail an Excess Funds Claims Form to:
- The former owner of the property
- Any individuals or entities with legal title rights to the property
Review the current list of eligible recipients of Excess Funds.
How to Claim Excess Funds
To request a portion of the excess proceeds, claimants must:
- Fully complete the Excess Funds Claim Form
- Submit the form to the address listed on the form
- Await approval from the Property Tax Department
Important: After the designated claims period ends, all submitted claims must be reviewed and approved by the Property Tax Department prior to disbursement.
Multiple Claims
If more than one claim is submitted for the same property, the distribution of funds may be determined through a civil court proceeding.
