The Carver County Public Works Division is responsible for the planning, design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and operation of the county highway system, which includes 271 miles of roadway and 64 bridges.

Operations Department Overview

The Operations Department is organized into three closely coordinated functional groups, each playing a vital role in achieving our maintenance objectives:

1. Highway Operations

This group manages the maintenance and repair of the County’s highway infrastructure. Key activities include:

  • Snow and ice removal
  • Pothole patching and debris cleanup
  • Street sweeping and shouldering
  • Mowing, weed control, and tree trimming/removal
  • Culvert and storm sewer inspection and repair
  • Ditch cleaning and guardrail repair
  • Crack sealing, seal coating, and bridge maintenance/safety inspections
  • And many other essential roadway services

2. Transportation Operations

This team oversees the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the County’s traffic control systems, including:

  • Traffic signal systems
  • Traffic signage installation and upkeep

3. Fleet Operations

Fleet Operations is responsible for the full lifecycle management of the County’s fleet, including:

  • Procurement and acquisition of vehicles and equipment
  • Routine and preventive maintenance
  • Disposal and replacement planning
  • Management of the Sheriff’s Office fleet
