Roads naturally wear down over time due to traffic and weather, leading to cracks, rough surfaces, and reduced ride quality. When routine patching is no longer enough, resurfacing restores the roadway by replacing the top layer of pavement. This process improves safety, smoothness, and overall driving conditions while extending the life of the road. Proactive resurfacing helps prevent more extensive and costly repairs in the future.

2026 Projects

The following pavement preservation and maintenance activities were completed during the 2026 Highway Preservation Program.

Sealcoating Projects

Crews applied sealcoating to portions of the following highways in July and August:

Highway 34 (Norwood Young America)

A mill and overlay near Norwood Young America, with select curb and gutter replacements, pedestrian ramp updates, and small areas of full-depth pavement repair.

Highway 152 (South of Cologne)

A mill and overlay on a 3-mile segment between Highway 51 and Highway 53 south of Cologne.

Crack Filling Projects

Crack filling work was completed in May on segments of several highways.
